Sound and AV at Sikh Sewaks Australia
The Challenge
Sikh Sewaks Australia, an organization dear to my heart, desperately needed an easy, simple way to record high-quality video of their speakers at campsites such at Kyneton and Campaspe Downs.
The videos needed to be quick to record, yet contain multiple camera angles. Additionally, it was a requirement that they be backed up in real-time using the 3-2-1 Backup rule, where 3 copies of data must exist on 2 mediums, with at least 1 being offsite.
The biggest constraint placed on us was budget- being a volunteer, non-profit organisation, costs should be as low as possible.
The Solution
Using the mixers already available, I used OBS Studio to manage incoming audio, downmix it into stereo, and combine it with a phone for wide angle and a camera for zoom shots. Videos were backed up in real time to a custom home server I built running ZimaOS, which was later upgraded to Proxmox for ease of backups and reliability.
